APPREHENDED MAN ESCAPES

AUCKLAND, This Day. Hiding near a car parking place on Saturday night a constable saw a baby car draw up and two young men get out and go to a parked car. He dashed out but a warning was shouted from the small car which then charged him, knocking him down and running over one leg. An exciting chase followed and eventually the constable caught one man bleeding from a wound he had received when he leaped over a fence. The constable and his captive u'ere awaiting a taxi near a picture theatre when the audience emerged. A scoutmaster seeing the man injured tried to render first aid, whereupon the man bolted into the crowd and eventually despite the constable’s efforts, escaped.
