SYDNEY, 9th January. Stanley Jackson, aged 18 years, hanged himself with a strip of blanket at Long Bay gaol overnight. He was awaiting trial for the murder of Mrs Gershel, aged 87-years, whom he allegedly brutally assaulted on 18tli December while trying to steal her handbag. She died from the effects of that ordeal on 2nd January.
