DRINK FOR DOGS

(To the Editor) Sir, —I was glad to see the letter in to-day’s issue about the need for a drinking trough in Nelson for d_ogs. A Nelson lady, the late Miss Ruth Simmons, daughter of a former principal of Nelson College, left provision in her will for a drinking trough in the city of Dunedin. I have often in former years halted by it, and remembered her thoughtful care for animals. She was for a long time a great personal friend of mine. What a Nelsonian did for Dunedin may perhaps help to inspire others to do for Nelson? It should be placed where most accessible to the dogs who drive cattlo or sheep. There is a certain amount of droving in connection with the abattoir, etc. Ii would be good if Nelson also led the way in providing for the safe parking of bicycles. Many people would gladly pay a small sum for the safety of their bicycles, while they shop, etc., —I am, GRACE FOX. Stoke, 9th January.
