OBITUARY

REV. FATHER J. FRAHER (By Telegraph— Special to “The Mail”) : CHRISTCHURCH, 9th January. A cable from Brisbane records the death of the Rev. Father James Fraher, S.M., aged 46 years. Father Fraher was bom in Greyinouth, and received his early education at Marist Bros. School, subsequently attending St. Patrick s College, Wellington, before entering Greenmeadows Seminary. He leaves a sisjter, Miss Mary Fraher, of Karoro, Greyinouth, and a brother. Richard, of Central Otago. Father .Fraher was stationed at Greymouth, Nelson, Otaki and Hastings, before his removal to Australia. ' COLONEL C. J. COOPER CHRISTCHURCH, 9th January. The death occurred to-day of Colonel Charles James Cooper, C.8.E., at the age of 66 years. Colonel Cooper was up till recently general manager in Christchurch for the London and Liverpool and Globe Insurance Co. He was very well known, in military circles throughout New Zealand. After being: a subaltern in the Wellington naval artillery and "the Lyttelton naval artillery, he was promoted to be Major commanding the Canterbury Division of the Garrison Artillery in 1905. He was made a lieuten-ant-colonel in 1907, and became coast defehce commander before retiring. , * Colonel Cooper, in addition, was keenly interested in athletics. ,
