LEG AMPUTATED

MAN CAUGHT BY TRUCKS (By Telegraph—Pres* Association) DUNEDIN, 7th January. While tallying cargo out of the Northumberland at Port Chalmers this afternoon, Hugh George Smith, a clerk employed by the New Zealand Shipping Company, was knocked under a rake- of trucks which was being shunted along the wharf, and received injuries which necessitated his removal to hospital, where his right leg was amputated. He has been placed on tho dangerously ill list.
