SMALLEST CHURCH

Guernsey claims to possess the smallest church in the world. Situated on the property of the Vauxbelets College and Novitiate, it is a replica of the Basilica at Lourdes. It was built by one of the brothers of the college. The work has taken him five years. He still works every day to improve what is already a masterpiece. The church is 16ft high. 13ft long and 10ft wide. It can accommodate about 12 persons. The outside of the building is of clinker, outlined by shells and stones. The interior is decorated with various designs of broken pottery and ormer shells. The little steeple contains a bell. The church is used for private devotion only. It is one of the stations on Rogation Days.
