i FURTHER BUSINESS
Further business dealt with at the Waimea. County Council meeting yesterday was as follows : Mr McCarthy who waited on the Council, asked the the Council to cut back corners on the Tadmor road. It was decided to inform Mr McCarthy that in vieiv of the present state of finances, it was not intended to take any action. A letter was received from the Secretary of the Wellington Free Ambulance containing details of the cost of a service similar to Wellington’s. A letter was received on behalf of the trustees of the Stoke Methodist Church stating the conditions on which they would convey a portion of the property to the Council. The Church will give a strip on the main highway side if they could have a similar strip on the other side. The Council agreed to make the exchange on certain conditions. Mr L. G. Hyde, Brightwater, protested against the filling in of the southern approach to the Wairoa river bridge. He considered the approach would divert water on to his property in flood periods. The letter was filed for reference.
The Wakefield and Motupiko Farmers’ Union wrote supporting the Council’s action in the matter of wages of the unemployed. The Stanley Brook Farmers’ Union asked the Council to proceed with the work of improving corners on the Stanley Brook-Tapawera Hill road. It was decided that the Council could not at present see its way to do the work. Jos. Caldwell, Kiwi, asked permission to lay water-pipes under the Tadmor main road. The application was granted. The Riwaka Farmers’ Union thanked the Council for renewing bridges on the Brooklyn and Riwaka Valley _ roads. The Riwaka Farmers’ Union asked for Brooklyn Valley road from King’s crossing to be cleared. The request was granted. The Mahana Progressive Committee wrote regarding expending a Government grant (£1 for £1) for metalling Mahana district roads. The Council is at present unable to finance on a £ for £ basis.
Messrs Argue and Reichelt, Mahana, requested permission to cut a ditch on the roadside. The matter was left in the hands of the Engineer. The Harakeke School Committee asked for the comer at the junction of the Tasman road Avith the main road to be improved. The Riding member and the Engineer were instructed to inspect the place and report to the next meeting. The Council offers no objection to Mr Green’s application to cut cocksfoot on the Council’s road.
