DRINK FOR THIRSTY DOGS
(To the Editor) Sir.—ln your issue of Wednesday last there appeared a letter which stressed the need of a drinking trough for dogs in—or near—our town. So far no comment has been made by any other writer, but there is no doubt the need is great, and there must be very many dog-lovers who would rejoice to see such means of relief brought to many thirsty animals. At the approach to the old Motueka wharf there was erected —as a memorial to a soldier who lost his life at the Boer War —a drinking fountain for the benefit of horses and dogs, and for many years it 1 was a boon to the farmers and their j animals after travelling along the hot, and dusty roads. If such provision was made there; why not here in Nelson? Cannot a public subscription be raised and the City Council be asked to sub-! sidise the amount. If so I am willing to ■ contribute £5 towards the cost of | same. I am etc., j ANOTHER DOG-LOVER. 1 Nelson, 9th January.
