SHIPPING DISPUTE AT SYDNEY SEAMEN CALLED OUT (United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, 6th January. A shipping dispute occurred to-day involving the inter-Staio passenger vessels Canberra and Ormiston. Both are held up, and it is likely tlmt others will be drawn into the dispute. The Seamen’s Union objected to a certain method of picking up its members, and called all seamen off the Canberra and Ormiston. Two hundred and fifty passengers are stranded. TROUBLE SPREADING (Received 7th January, 9.55 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. In addition to the Ormiston and the Canberra the Allara, Chillagoe, and Mildura wil be held up unless a settlement is reached. It is feared that eveiy ship which signs up a crew under the old system will be laid up.
