CANADIAN FAMILY

APPLICATION FOR RELIEF

RECENT ARRIVAL IN DOMINION (By Telegraph—Special to "The Mail") 1 AUCKLAND, This Day. After being only eight days in the city a family of eight Canadians who arrived in the Dominion; shortly before Christmas, made an application to the Auckland Hospital Board for relief. An investigation of the case showed that the family had been advanced £SO by an Auckland friend to assist them to travel to New Zealand, but on their arrival the person who had made the loan was out of work, and could render no further assistance. Owing to the large number of urgent local applications for assistance, the relief committee of the Hospital Board did not feel justified in meeting the request- of the Canadian family, but another social organisation in the city gave the recent arrivals sufficient food to last over the Christmas holiday season.
