STEAMER PROGRESS

SHELTERING AT D’URVILLE ISLAND (By Telegraph—Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, 6th January. The small steamer Progress, which left Picton at 11 a.m. on Saturday for New Plymouth, has not yet arrived, and some anxiety is felt locally, although it is thought probable the vessel is still sheltering on the coast. Under normal conditions the voyage should take 24 hours, but the seas have been heavy since Saturday’s gale. WELLINGTON. 6th January. Tlie Pi’ogress is stated by her owners' to have been sheltering at D’Urville Island. She left there this morning and is due at New Plymouth to-night.
