THE CHIEF EVENT DESCRIBED MILO MINTO’S CUP (By Telegraph—Special to "The Mail”) CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. Somerby was the only withdrawal from the Greymouth Trotting Cup. and in an even betting pool of £I9OO investors voted strongly for the Real Girl-Milo Minto bracket; the former with M. Holmes in the sulky. All the field with the exception of Stanley T. and Royal Comrade moved off correctly. The former broke badly after settling, and was pulled up in the first circuit. Author Franz led Festival, Real Girl and Milo Minto over the first three furlongs, but Festival then pulled herself to the front, and in spite of a big hold she had a break of several lengths in the second circuit from a bunch headed by Author Franz and Milo Minto. The field closed

on Festival in the next round and entering the final circuit Milo Minto took charge from Author Franz and Denver City. All were running in close order. Denver City made a forward move rounding the home turn and followed Mino Minto into the straight, with Author Franz, Festival, and Real Girl next. Denver City failed to run on, and it was left to Author Franz to tackle Milo Minto, His effort was a creditable one, but the latter finished full of running and recorded a meritorious win by a length and a half. Denver City was over two lengths clear of Festival. Real Girl and Hostess. The race was full of interest in spite of the fact that the winner had the field in trojfhle over the last five furlongs. Author Franz impressed by his finishing run. but Denver City disappointed after going well throughout and threatening danger at the home turn. Festival lost her chance by her early tactics, while Real Girl failed over the last circuit. Stanley T. had a strong following and his defeat was very disconcerting. Mac do Oro showed promise in the last cricuit, but drifted out under pressure. Hostess. High Jinks and Great Author were not prominent at any stage.
