NEW TRADE TREATY
CANADA AND AUSTRALIA

VICTORIA (8.C.), 3rd January. The conferences between Mr Moloney and the Provincial Government on Tuesday may have a vital effect oil the new trade treaty. Believing that British Columbia is probably more interested in Australian trade than other provinces, the Government will stress the desire for a preferential duty on lumber imported into Australia and in return will suggest the possibility of Australia building up a large wine business here as the provincial liquor board now imports twenty-six different Australian wines. NO DESIRE TO EMBARRASS OTTAWA. 3rd January. A Winnipeg message states that the Australian Minister of Trade, Mr Moloney, arrived here en route to Vancouver. He believes that the wheat markets of the world have reached their bottom and that a rising market will not long be delayed. In reference to the Australian exports of butter to Canada, be said his country did not desire to embarrass either the butter making or any other industry in Canada. “But you do not make enough butter to supply vour home demand, and we like to sell you the remainder of your needs,” he added.
