COLOGNE, 2nd January

“I almost think that large signboards should he placed at all riversides to guide lone flyers,” said Miss Amy Johnson facetiously, when referring to her adventures yesterday when beading for Berlin, from Stag Lane. Slip encountered terrific head winds and decided to make for Cologne instead. when she mistook the Meuse for the Rhine and flew along the river s course to find herself above Leigo late in the afternoon. Consequently she landed to-day at Cologne after a delay of six hours owing to Customs and other formalities. She departed for Berlin at 1.30 p.m. She mot atrocious, weather with a head-on gale, which made reaching Berlin before dark an impossibility and she accordingly turned back to. Cologne, landing halt frozen but cheery. She says 1-hat it Ihe conditions are favourable she will cut out the call at Berl’ii and fly direct to Warsaw. MYSTERY CLEARED UP LONDON, 3rd January. The mystery of Miss Johnson’s Government work mentioned during the motoring case has now been cleared up. It- appears that she left a car unattended while she had a chat with the secretary of the Empire Marketing Board about trade prospects in Australia. The defence pleaded that she was detained by a Government official with whom she was engaged in Government business. The case was dismissed.
