TRAVIS AXWORTHY’S PARK HANDICAP
A BRILLIANT BEGINNING
(By Telegraph—Special to "The Mail’’)
CH RISTCnURCII, 2nd January. From Hie start of the Park Handicap Travis Axworlliy fairly flew, and had his handicap made up with two furlongs gone. Thereafter F. G. Holmes tucked in behind Steel All, Harvest Child and Sunny Rob, and in a thrilling finish with'Great Logan be prevailed narrowly. Tn a large measure Travis Axworlliy owed his victory to his brilliant beginning and the excellent handling of I*. G. Holmes, who bugged the fence most of the way. W 7 hen it is known that Steel All look 2.20 2-5 for the first mile it will ho realised that FPrufvis Ax,worlhy’s time for the last milo was phenomenal. It would have taken a good horse lo have outstayed him to-day. Great Logan fought on gamely to the end and Vendome finished full of running into third place after being well placed all the way. Harvest Child proved the best of the others. Lindbergh was again slowly away hut ho did not show lo the same advantage as on tho first day. Neeoro broke at the end of a furlong and was never afterwards pi’ominenf. Arikiloa and Sunny Rob were in the firing line to tho distance, but Steel All was a beaten horse a long way from home.
