HARVESTING ACCIDENT
INJURIES PROVE FATAL (-By Telegraph—Press Association) BLENHEIM, This Day. As the result of a harvesting accident which occurred on. 11. J. Gluyass’ property, Grassmero, a fortnight ago, James Smyrl (30) a single man, died in Wairau Hospital. When mowing grass the team started to move off and Smyrl rushed to check them and was knocked over in the path of the mower knife. He was dragged about eighty yards. A child on the machine had the presence of mind to pull the knife out of gear but the steel fingers of the guard struck Smyrl on the head and back, fracturing his skull. Acute infective meningitis set in with fatal consequences.
