ASSAULTED AND ROBBED
MIDDLE-AGED RESTAURATEUR

AUCKLAND. Tliis Day.
A. M. Baird, a middle-aged restaurateur ,was assaulted and robbed of two days’ takings of £6B, at about 1.30 o'clock on New Year’s morning. He went home in a taxi in which two other men were passengers. All left the taxi at Baird’s gate and lie wished the others a Happy New Year. Then, ha savs. lie was sandbagged and robbed of a bag containing the money. The taxi in the meantime had gone on. He shouted for help and people including his wife who were at a party across the road, came out and nicked him up, suffering from two black eyes and a. broken nose.
