Until the completion of the agreement no Australian butter will be sold in Canada at less than 32 cents per pound. As the present wholesale price is about thix-ty cents the effect is for the present at least that Australian butter will cease to be a factor on the domestic market. Messrs Maloney and Stevens are still conferring, and Australia’s undertaking is believed to have paved the way for a settlement of one of the more difficult factors. The setting of a minimum price has been suggested as a method to be followed in settling the butter question in the treaty itself.
