FIREMAN COLLAPSES

NEW YEAR’S MORNING FATALITY

WANGANUI, This Day. While attending a fire at St George’s Gate early on New Year’s morning, Alexander Hird (37) foreman of the Wanganui Fire Brigade, collapsed and died. He was rushed to the fire station where medical aid was called and artifical respiration applied but without result. Just prior to the collapse deceased was left in charge of the fire which was well under control, by Superintendent Williams, who together with a number ot firemen had been called to another outbreak at Gonville.

Hird had been complaining of being unweil of late. He leaves a wife and three children.
