THE KETTLE MEMORIAL CUP BLACK DUKE HOME AGAIN (By Telegraph—Special to “The Mail”) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Beau Geste, Baby Bun and Kamo were the defections from the Kettle Memorial Cup, and in a good betting race Black Duke was sent out an even moijey choice. He was again responsible lor a sterling effort and recorded a victory after one of his typical finishing runs. Coomassie shot to the front going out of the straight and going along the. back stretch was some six lengths clear of Killigrew, Arch Arrow, Miss Mercia and Thorndale. Coomassie was still in charge when the straight was entered, but was showing signs of distress and the field closed up. FirsT Thorndale and then Miss Mercie threw out a challenge and it was not until Black Duke appeared on the outside that the issue was decided. He mowed down the leaders in the last fifty yards and timed his run to gain tile decision by a length. Miss Mercie stuck to her task well and beat Coomassie by a neck.
