VICTORIAN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

MELBOURNE,, 6th August. At golf in the quarter finals of the first of the Victorian Amateur Championship. Morpeth, two, up, defeated Fawcett. Bulte and Hancock squared. Nettlefold, one up, defeated Fowler. Ryan, three up, defeated Whitton.
In the second round, Morpeth, one up. defeated Fawcett. Ryan, tour up and three to play, defeated Whitton. Nettlefold, six up and five to play, defeated Fowler. Hancock', one up, defeated Bulte.
The weather was good. Morpeth had nn even tussle with Fawcett, squaring for 39 out. Coming home Fawcett had chances to win at the seventeenth and eighteenth holes, but lost his advantage with four feet putts—Morpeth 40, Fawcett 39. In the second round Morpeth won on the thirty-seventh hole. Hancock beat'Bulte on""the thirtyninth hole.
The four- Finalists now are : Morpeth L. Nettlefold (Australian champion). M Ryan and A. Hancock.
Morpeth's chances are highly regarded, despite the.,calibre of Nettlefold and Ryan who are in great form.
