SPIRITUAL HEALING
MR J. M. HICKSON'S MISSION
WORK IN AUCKLAND DIOCESE
STAYING FOR SEVERAL MONTHS
Mr J. M. Hickson, t)ic spiritual healer, is ;ii present in Auckland in tlie course dl' an extended lour, unci n committee of Church of England clergy, comprising Canon C. 11. (Irani .Cowcu, Uie Rev. G. Gordon Bell and the Rev. R. (i. Coats, has been set up to organise liis mission in the diocese and to arrange an itinerary for private mission work (says the "Herald").
A special meeting of the city clergy was held recently at the wish and under the chairmanship of Archbishop Averill. Mr Hickson was present and lie reported upon the work he hud carried out, since his spiritual healing mission in Auckland in 1923. Mr Hickson also referred to the work' he had undertaken throughout New. Zealand recent] yin consolidating the work of his last mission and in carrying forward the spiritual healing movement.
"From the reports of Ihe work done in the last few months in Dunedin, Christehurch, Wellington, and Waiapu, the clergy present were inclined to think that there was room and need for similar developments in tins' diocese," states a circular letter which has been sent to all the clergy in the diocese. "Mr IlickDon will be staving' in Auckland until April of next year and he has generously offered to place himself at tlie disposal of the diocese for spiritual healing work during that time. Mr Hickson feels Ihal having delivered his message and done his work through large public healing missions throughout, the world, there is now no further need lo continue the work on that scale, lie prefers now lo proceed through i|iiiel, small parochial efforts without publicity other than Hint which is necessary to acquaint parishioners and other of his arrangements. "
The letter adds ilial Mr Hickson's visit io parishes' usually consists of an evening service for final preparation and combined intercession, followed by a service for Ihe laying-on of hands the following morning. The preparation in each parish consisted of organising a band of intercessors and the individual preparation of the sick and suffering. The parishes receiving Mr. Hickson would be under no financial obligation, although it was urged that opportunity should lie made for freewill offerings M> meet ihe missioner s expenses.
