OSTEND, sth August, It is now estimated that there were seventy passengers in the motor boat Joseph 111, chiefly excursionists from Liege and Charleroi. They had just left the pier when a pleasure boat cut the Joseph 111 in twain. A few were able to swim and their heart-rending cries for, help were added to the horror of the mad "stampede for the beach. Boatmen rushing to .the sea were able to rescue some. Artificial respiration was necessary in several cases. One woman was frantic with grief at the loss of a small girl whose yellow jacket could be seen floating on the water. A man came to the pier to meet his wife and daughter who were on board. He saw them both drowned. The man was taken to hospital demented. Ten thousand gathered at the pier head long into tho night, weeping and seeking information regarding missing.
