At golf during tin! week-end Sloanc .Morpeth (74) defeated Reg Jup (78). the champion professional, in an eighteen hole match. In tin; second round of the Victorian amateur tournament to-day Morpeth, six u]) and five to play, defeated .Morrison. Ryan (Victoria), six up ami live to play, defeated Ross. Fawcetf (New South Wales) one up. defeated llorton.
Conditions for play were bleak and wintry. Morpeth putted well throughout. He once sliced into the rough and in a tearing shot to get clear, hit two balls out, one his own, and another, which was a los: ball lying unnoticed alongside.
Horton was unreliable in short shots
Loss started badly by losing the first three holes His steady recovery could rot make up (lie leeway.
At tin! end of the first round. Ryan of Victoria is one up on Ross of New Zealand.
Morpeth (New Zealand) is one tip on Morrison.

WEEK-END TOURNAMENI
During the week-end a, \cvy enjoyable tournament vas played by the .Nelson Golf Club. The events comprised a flight competition, commencing on Saturday afternoon and continuing yesterday, when a bogey handicap and a'four-bail bogey handicap were played in conjunction. Interesting games were witnessed, particularly in tho Ist and 2nd flights, in the finals of which Rout beat Huggins 1 up at the 19th, and Ralfe. heat Lucas 1 up respectively. W inners of the various events were:— Ist flight. Rout; 2nd flight, Ralfe; 3rd Hgihl. <!. F. Dodds; 4th flight, Maunscll; sth flight, Ration. Bogey handicap, Martin 3 up. Four-ball bogey, J. E. Hume and Sinclair 3 up.
