WHEAT SHORTAGE
HIGHER LEVEL OF PRICES
(United Presi Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Australian I'reaa Auooiation)
LONDON, 4th August, The world 'wheat-crop for 1929-30 is likely to be insufficient to meet the consumptive demand, says an agricultural market report received here. Drought has adversely affected spring wheat and the sowing of new crops in the United States, while there was insufficient rain in Argentina, and Australia and Canada. Fortunately there were universally large quantities of wheat remaining from 1928-29 which will help to counteract the deficiency of the new crops, so that there is every reason to believe _ that supplies from exporting .countries in 1929-30 will meet the-demand of importing countries. The existence of a much closer relation between supply and demand, however, will undoubtedly result in a higher level of prices.
