COTTON DISPUTE

A new factor in the cotton situation has arisen owing to' the Government's inquiry. Meanwhile the operative spinners, whose representatives have already indicated their willingness to accept, tho principle of a reduction in wages but desire to negotiate as to the amount, have decided to refer the whole question to the districts, and will meet again on Monday. The attitude of the workers generally ' is summed up by the weavers' president, who wants the mills to reopen at the old rates and then to hold a discussion to solve tho difficulties. ■Courtauld's have closed down tho Nuneaton artificial silk factory, employing 1500 workers, until 12th August, | "when.the position will be reviewed. j
