AERIAL SURVEY ALONG THE COAST AND INLAND (By Telegraph—Press Association) VVESTPORT, TJtis Day. Captain Whit-ford, of the Marine Department, in a Moth aeroplane in charge of Captain Buckley, made l a survey of Hie .steamer routes' as far as Ilikurangi lighthouse, lie saw nothing in the nature of ft disturbance of the marine bottom, or in the nature of shoaling. Two further reconnaisance flights have been made, both )ry Captain Buckley, accompanied by Corporal Smith. The first (light was from Seddonville along the (ilasgow fault to the sea, numerous photographs being taken on route. The cecond flight, was over Mount Rochfort to the Buller river, and ovei' to M.ureiiison via Lyell. An inspection was made and photographs taken of slips in the Matakilaki river causing the lake. The aeroplane then left for Chrjstchnrch, but in the vicinity of Lewis Saddle engine, trouble developed and the aeroplane steered for Beofton and thence hack to Westport, where the usual perfect landing was made. The engine will be overhauled in the morning and if it is all right the return flight to Christ church will be made via Arthur's Bass.
