HALF-MILLION ALIENS Tho number of aliens who landed in tho United Kingdom last year was slightlv higher than in tho preceding 12 months. The total was 439,419, compared with 412.686 in 1927. __ Entrants from the United States (141,652) again headed tho list, although' tiic figure was 2000 lower than in 1927. France ranked second with 62,693, which was an increase of 7000. Fewer aliens were refused permission to land, the total of 1981 comparing with 2092. Of these 258 were Germans, 224 Scandinavians, and 212 of Polish nationality. Only 42 Russians were .excluded.
