NON PARTY

A NEW ASSOCIATION TO SECURE. GOOD CANDIDATES Several eonfeivneot of business men have recently been held in Wellington, ami ax the eiitrome »>f their delilnna lions the New Zealand' Political Aa>ocia lion iias been formed. The chief planks in tlie platform of the association are:— To oppose all legislation having folds objective the nationalisation of the mentis of production and distribution, and in general To oppose all legislation of an exli'cmic socialistic i-liaiai-tcr ; To oppose undue (iovcnnm-nt interference with private enterprise; To promote, irrespective of party politics, tlie candidature for and return In Parliament of persons who are best qualified to represent the public. The president of the association (Air Edwin Salinond), in discussing its objects with a representative of "The Post," stated that for some time pasl many electors in this city and elsewhere had been considering the question of forming an association such as that of which lie had the honour <!' becoming Hu; first, president. .Much time ami consideration had been given to the project, and lie bad no hesitation in stating that in his opinion the platform would appeal to a i onsideva’ole section of electors, and that Hie association would become ail important factor, numerically, in supporting desirable Parliamentary candidates, not neces siail.y of any particular party. Formerly there had been little, if any, inducement in that direction to offer prospective candidates, and hy the activities and influence of the association the disadvantage would be largely overcome. Measures for the benefit of the people generally in preference to party politics js the dominating principle of the association. The following have been elected to office: President. Air Edwin Salmond; vice-president, Air T. C. A. liislop; committee, Alessrs J. L. Arcus, Al. C Barnett. W. J. Gaudin, J. ' Alartyn Hume, C. D. Morpeth, J. Alunt, F. II Mather, and V. G. Rliind. The seere’taiy is Mr T. Lisle. A nominal annual subscription for both sexes has been fixed; headquarters ot the movement have been secured in Wellington, and being non-party the association already lias enrolled a lar-rn number of members.
