A YOUNG COUPLE SEQUEL TO QUARREL i SENSATIONAL INCIDENT AT BLENHEIM (By Telegraph—Press Association) BLENHEIM. This Day. A sensational incident occurred last evening when, following an altercation between a young couple, both leapt from the Alfred'street bridge .into the Omaha river. The pair were first observed quarrelling 100 yards from the bridge. The young lady attempted to escape the man’s attentions, but he overtook her and the argument was continued on the bridge, which is on one of the main business thoroughfares. Suddenly the woman climbed the handrail of the bridge, and ileapt to the water, the man following her example. The police arrived on the scene a moment later and rescued the pair. , The woman was conveyed to the Public Hospital, while the man was placed in custody. This morning, at the Police Court, William Dalziel Keith, aged 28, pleaded not guilty to a charge of assaulting Edna Kitto, also to a charge of offensive behaviour. The police applied for a remand in custody till to-morrow morning as the girl was still in hospital.
