COLDEST NIGHT
SNOW ON FRINGE HILLS The snow mantle low down on the Fringe hills and the mountiains all round the bay this ‘morning was one sign of the coldest period in Nelson this winter. The minimum temperature on the grass during the 24 hours ended 9 a.in. this morning was 23.2 degrees nearly 9 degrees of frost. Puddles in the roadway everywhere were frozen over and a very heavy frost covered everything out of doors. The sky was clear at daylight and when the sun rose the snow-covered hills looked very beautiful. In spite of brilliant sunshine much of the snow had not melted by this afternoon.
