Jones (Alid-C'ant erhnry) asked the Minister of Public Woi’ks in the House of Representatives to-day whether it was a fact that from four hundred I o six hundred men had been employed tor some time on the Midland (WestlnndNelson) line mi construction work? Was it the policy of the Government to atari their railway policy before submission lo Parliament ? The lion. E. A. Ransom replied: "The department, has at present 469 men employed hot ween Westport, and Nelson, rather more than half of those being on the 'Westport-Inangahua section, the balance' on the Murchison-Glenhcpe seclinn. The men are employed on works authorised and put in hand by the late Government, and duly authorised and approved by Parliament.”
