ESTABLISHING HAPPY RELATIONS (United Prota Association—By El»ctrfe T»legraph—Copyright) (Anatraliaa Press Association) LONDON, 30th July. Mr Tom Shaw, Minister of War, speaking at Prestoa declared that the Labour Government was going to give Egypt independence on terms that would establish happy relations and make our communications with our eastern empire safe for all time. The "Daily Telegraph's'.' diplomatic correspondent gathers that Anglo-Egyp-tian conversations are expected to result in a fortnight in an agreement on the rough draft of the proposed treaty. The Cairo newspaper "Al Ahram"' says that officials in contact with Mahmoud Pasha, state that events in London are progressing satisfactorily. A (lelegatioa of prominent representatives of Egyptian opinion will probably be summoned to London to examine the draft of an Anglo-Egyptian treaty which Mahmoud will submit to the British Government.
