WELLINGTON SESSIONS (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, 30th July The grand jury threw out the cliargo of manslaughter against Eric .Matthews, petty officer of the Diomede, in what is known as the pie-cart case. In the. Supreme Court Chus. A. Comei'ford, who pleaded guilty to .six charges of theft and forgery while employed as a radiographer at Wellington Hospital, was to-day sentenced to eighteen months imprisonment on each count, to be concurrent. His Honour said it was clear accused was in a position of trust, and was in the habit of helping himself. PALMERSTON NORTH SESSIONS PALMERSTON N., This Day. The Supreme Court action in which Ellen Jane Wheeler, Palmorslon North, claimed £ISOO damages by way of compensation from T. F. Conway, orchardist at Fitzherbert, for the death of iter daughter through being struck by defendant's car on 12th June, concluded to-day before Mr Justice Smith. It was alleged that Conway drove negligently. The question of contributory negligonco by deceased was raised. Mho jury, after a short retirement, found neither party negligent, the judgment being that it was an inevitable accident. DUNEDIN SITTINGS DUNEDTN. This Day. To the Supreme Court Frederick .Arthur Lloyd, formerly clerk to the Manioloto County Council, was .found guilty of omitting to account for JC4I9 ami also of failing to pay into the bunk within seven days amounts of over £lO and totalling £419. He was remanded for sentence.
