NEW ZEALAND'S VALUABLE RESOURCES EFFECT OF TOP-DRESSING ' £~x -- - "The suitability of the soil and climate of this Dominion to grow English grass-pastures may be considered one of our most valuable resources, and produces the quality of ment desired in Britain," says the* seventh annual report of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board. "The increasing use of suitable fertilisers in top-dressing is now having a marked effect on the carrying capacity of our pastures, and may also make great changes in regard to shortening the period of winter scarcity. These are most important, factors, contributing to the continued increase in our sheep iiocks, so that, apart from the breakingin of fresh land, the areas already in pasture are bringing increased prosperity to this Dominion. With the dependence which this Dominion places on its grass pastures for the production of its main primary products it is of vital importance that we should endeavour to increase our returns from these natural resources. Top-dressing is perhaps the greatest single factor of influence in the increase of our main primary products and, combined with the breeding of high-class stock there is nothing that will so improve the quality of our meat.''
