DEATHS FROM FUMES

THREE PERSONS IN CHICAGO CHEMICAL IN REFRIGERATORS CHICAGO, 17th July. Three members of * one family were found dead jto-day as the result of inhalation of methyl-chloride fumes from a mechanical refrigerator in their apartment. Altogether, a score of deaths which hav2 occurred recently during the heat wave have been' chai-ged to similar incidents in the operations of various makes of refrigerators now so popular in big city apartment houses. Following to-day's tragedy, the Health Commissioner issued an order banning methyl-chloride as a refrigerant, which will mean the temporary non-usage of thousands of refrigerators. In this particular case Joseph Painter, his wife and son, evidently felt ill before retiring, and were conscious for some time, but were too weak to rise to obtain ventilation.
