INCENDIARISM IN CHRISTCHURCH
SUPPOSED CLUE MAN THREATENED WITH REVOLVER (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Two strange men armed with a revolver threatened the life of a City Council storcman at the corner of 'Moorhouse avenue and Montreal street at 1 o'clock yesterday morning. The storeman, Growcott, had accosted the men, and before the men departed hurriedly they showed him a revolver to impress on him a warning that he must keep silent about meetii«j them. One of the men rushed away when Growcott appeared, but the other stayed and made the threat. Importance is attached to the information Growcott has given the police, and all who know of the incident have been sworn .to silence. It is believed the men are connected with the incendiarism that has been going on lately in the city. The damage done by the incendiarist is now approaching £40,000. In addition to damage done at Messrs Bing Harris and Co.'s premises, there was £IO,OOO worth of damage to Messrs J. M. Heywood and Co.'s bulk store on the night of 21st July, while in other cases damage running into hundreds of pounds has been done, including the destruction of three motor cars at the 'garage of R. C. Dobson on the night of Bth July.
