MOTOR SPEED LIMIT
PRIVATE CARS IN BRITAIN ABOLITION RECOMMENDED " : , LONDON, 17th July. Thti-abblition of the speed limit, for private motor vehicle* is the principal reconimendation of the interim report, oi the Royal Cuiiimis.sion on road transport, according to the "Daily News." Twenty miles an hour is the present open-road limit for all vehicles. The report, which will shortly be presented to Parliament, recommends the retention of (lie speed limit for public .service vehicles, but suggests that it should be higher than 20 miles per hour. The commission says that the 20-mile limit is so generally disregarded that it lias become a dead-letter. li. also recommends the abolition of most minor motoring offences, with severer penalties for the general offences of driving: in a manner dangerous to the public.
