24,000 MEALS EVERY DAY!

A BARNARDO HOMES APPEAL Once again Dr. Barnardo’s Homos, who support tlm largest family in the world, are appealing for their food fund. The holiday season of the year is commencing, but there can he no holiday for the food bill fund where this great family is concerned. Last year 18,0(33 children and young people were dealt with by the homes, and 1073 were permanently admitted, which means that till they arc able to earn their own living (an average of .about 10 years) they must be cared for, fed, clothed, taught and trained. To meet the food bill during the lean months of the year 400,000 halfcrowns are asked for as birthday gifts in memory of the founder, Dr. Barnardo, and to celebrate the 03rd anniversary; and founder’s day. Every day 21,000 meals have to he provided for this great family, which equals a town in size. Sixteen hundred loaves are baked daily by lads at the Boys’ Garden City bakehouse; but this large number supplies only about half the family. There are always about 8000 children in these national homes, and 5 others, on an average, are admitted daily. These destitute little people cannot appeal for themselves, and we are asked to do so on their behalf. Cheques and orders may be payable to “Dr. Barnardo’s Homes Food Fund” and crossed, and addressed to “Dr. BuVnardo’s Homes Food Fund,” 18-20 Stepney Causeway, London, 13.1.
