THISTLE V. THE REST CO08)1 GAME AT VICTORY square: ENDS IN A DRAW The final mulch of the Association football championship series—Thistle v. The Rest was played at Victory Square nil Saturday. Athletic and Y.M.C.A. had previously forfeited to Thistle and Hospital respectively. The teams were: Tin* Rest: I’allen, Lane, llasler, McKcllar, Kissoek, Ashworth, Beveridge, Cliristinsun, Richards (captain), Smith, l lore. Thistle: IE Kirhv, A. Kirliv, Coxhill, Miller, O’Donnell, Hurst (captain), Cowman, Campbell, Du Kue, Deveraux, Potts. Thistle were minus their star goalie Smith, his place being taken bv ivirbv of Y.M.C.A. He Flit kicked off for Thistle, giving the nail to Campbell to pass to Cowman. He was,stopped by llasler, who relieved with a punt to Christinson, then to Beveridge. Hurst robbed him and sent the ball to Deveraux, whose kick for goal just missed. This was the first of many close, attempts at the goal. After a lively few minutes O'Donnell brought play to the Rest end by passing to Campbell to Cowman. The winger was stopped by Ashworth, who sent Smith away again. A. Kirhv sent them buck by kicking to Hurst, who put forward to Du Kue, and being tackled by Lane, gave to Deveraux to score with a left foot drive giving Patten no chance. Thistle 1, Rest 0. The Rest forwards, led by Richards, tried to break through, but the half hack line of the Thistle, Miller, O’Donnell and Hurst saw' that they <1 id m/l get far. Shortly afterwards O’Donnell again got the ball, and made for the Rest goal, where he placed to Cowman, who beat Ashworth, and sent in u beautiful centre to Deveraux, who scored Thistle’s second goal. Thistle 2, Rest 0. Richards was working hard in the Rest forward line, and tried hard to get his forwards 'going, but they were driven back by Thistle defence. A. Kirby took a penalty kick, punted to Cowman to see Ids kick to Deveraux cleared by Lane. He sent to Richards, who gained ground arid passed to Smith for llm winger to put across to Christinson, who shot for goal. F. Kirby saved but by hanging on to tho ball too long was robbed by Richards, who opened (lie score for the Rest. Thistle 2, Rest 1. Good play by McKellar, Christinson and Richards led to the centre
equalling the score with a left foot drive. Thistle 2, Rest 2. Thistle wore in tlie Rest territory when half time sounded with the score 2 all. Richards restarted the game with a pass to Beveridge. He took the ball down the line but was robbed by C'oxhill, who passed to Hurst, then to Potts who shot into goal. Hasler cleared and scut to Patten, (McKellar going in goal this half), who gave to Richards to send to Smith to score for the Rest. Rest 3, Thistle 2. Thistle began to waken up after this. Patten sent the ball down the field only for it to be brought back by O’Donnell, andfrom his pass Potts shot into goal. McKellar saving kicked to Kissoek, who sent Dore away on the left and from his centre Richards scored again for the Rest. Rest 4, Thistle 2. Thistle were trying hard to pierce the Rest defence and at last succeeded by Hurst passing to Potts, whose centre was put past McKellar bv De Fue scoring the third goal for Thistle. Rest 4. Thistle 3. Richards gave to Smith, but was sent back by'"O’Donnell, who sent to Cowman 'to shoot behind. .The /byo kick went to Hurst, who passed to Deveraux. As Lane came to meet him he touched to Potts, who with a fast rising shot into the far corner of the not made the scores 4 all. Kissoek sent Richards away, whose pass to Smith was taken by A.. Kirby, who sent to Campbell. Ashworth was on the alert and brought the ball down to Richards, who passed to Christinson to score the fifth goal for the Rest. Rest 5, Thistle 4. De Fue passed to Deveraux, who went through and scored again for Thistle. Time was drawing near and one of the best games seen played this season was brought to a dose. The result was a draw. Thistle 5. The Rest 5. AFr Pattinson emit rolled the 'game.
