COMMEMORATIVE FLIGHT

BLERIOT’S CHANNEL CROSSING (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Australian. Press Association) PARIS, 27th July. Bleriot, who first flew the Channel in 1909, commemoratively flew from Le Bourget to Dover in the latest Bleriot monoplane, accompanied by two navigators and a pilot. Eleven Air Force aeroplanes met the Frenchmen near Dover cliffs and escorted them to Swin'gato aerodrome, where crowds wildly cheered a beautiful landing. The Mayor, the French Consul, and Sir Seftou Branckuer welcomed the fliers in the meadow where Bleriot first landed after 37 minutes’ flight compared with to-day’s 15 minutes. Bleriot said that with eight refuelling stations in the Atlantic, the ’planes would proceed from London to America in 1949 as easily as from London to Paris nowadays.
