Despite signs of an early resumption of some form of negotiations between China and Russia, the Chinese are steadily tightening their grip of the Chinese eastern railway. Nanking received urgent despatches front Kaigau and Urgit disclosing the Soviet’s subversive activities in outer Mongolia where a Mongolian rebellion is expected at any moment. Nanking announces that additional troops are not necessary in the north. The present forces of 200,000 are considered adequate protection for the border. A LONDON INCIDENT (Received 29th Julv, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, 28th July. The police frustrated an attempt at a hostile, demonstration at tho Chinese Legation in London. After an anti-war meeting at Trafalgar Square Communists demonstrated outside the Legation, but mounted police moved them on. A scrimmage occurred, but there were no incidents of note.
