MAGISTRATE'S COURT
TO DAY’S SITTING Mr T. 30. Maunscll, S.M., presided at tho weekly sitting of tho Magistrate’s Court to-day. Judgment for plaintiff i>v default was given in the following civil cases: —C. Layton v. Charles Maule £B, costs £1 32s 6d; Jlallenstein Bros. Ltd. v. Fred I-lare £5 IGs 3d, costs £1 14s 6d; Lillian M. Todd v. 11. Garnett and A. Beatty 18s 6d, costs 3s; Betsy Windlobourn v. W. H. Shaw £7 7s lOd, costs £1 30s 6d . On a judgment summons J. Warring y. J. Stagg the judgment debtor was sentenced to 12 days imprisonment, the Warrant to be suspended so- long as ho pays £1 per week. For being found illegally on licensed premises after hours William Ryan was fined 10s with costs 10s. Arthur William St John was fined 5s with costs 12s for driving a motor car while not holding a driver’s license. APPLICATION FOR SEPARATION Ada Beatrice Violetta Stubbingtcn (represented by Mr S. H. Moynagh) applied to the Court for a separation, order irom her husband Frederick Charles Stubbington. She gave evidence of her husband’s cruelty towards her and his uso of foul language. They had been living apart for some time but her husband repeatedly persecuted her. She detailed several instances when he had struck her and used insulting language. The applicant’s evidence was supported by two witnesses. The defendant admitted striking his wife on several occasions but denied using foul and insulting language. Ho maintained that ho had treated her well but that she would not live with him. Tho Magistrate made an order for separation with costs £3 3s against the defendant.
