WELLINGTON, 26th July. The illness of the King, the approaching departure of the Governor-General and Lady Alice Fergus'scn, and the recent earthquake are specially referred to in the Addrcss-in-Reply to His Excellency’s speech at the opening of Parliament, approved by the House of Representatives last night, “We join with Your Excellency,” says the Address, “in your earnest expression of thankfulness for the recovery of His Majesty from his recent serious illness.
“We desire to express our deep regret at Your Excellency’s approaching departure on the completion of your term as Governor-General of this Dominion, and at the Severance thereby necessitated of the happy relations that have existed throughout" your tenure of office between Your Excellency and all sections of the community. “We shall always hold in cordial remembrance Your Excellency’s sojourn amongst us as His Majesty’s Representative in New Zealand; and we desire to record our sincere appreciation of your intimation, and that of Her Excellency, that the furtherance of the interests of the Dominion at Home, and the happiness, peace and prosperity of our people, will continue to be matters of personal concern to you both. “We also join with Your Lxcellmey in deploring the loss of life and damage caused by the recent disastrous earthquake, and measures to provide relief for those who have suffered will have our sympathetic consideration.”
