ALLEGATIONS OF CRUELTY
THE ELMSLEY CASE (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, This Day. In the Elmsley case, in which Mrs Elmsley complained of the cruelty of her husband, a constable gave evidence that he secreted himself near a window and heard the girls abusing their mother and the father encouraging them. Mrs Elmsley complained of needles being stuck into her four or five times in. one day. Accused said it was a waste of time to give the: vermin food. The house was unfit for human habitation. It was not rain proof and mud oozed through the floor. Medical evidence was that the house was unfit for living in. The conditions suggested extreme poverty,] The hearing was adjourned.
