Tlie concluding results at the South Canterbury Racing Club’s meeting were as follows*:— Temuka Hack Handicap, of 120 sovs; six furlongs—2 Sweet Refrain, 10.3, 1; 1 Red Boa, 10.6, 2; 5 Broadfield, 9.0, 3. Scratched: Grand Acre, El Boa, Felony, Morian. Won by a. neck. Time, 1.20 2-5. Craigmore Hack Steeplechase, of 150 sovs; about two miles—6 Silver Light, 9.11, 1; 3 Hyperion, 9.13, 2; 4 Valves, L 9.9, 3. Scratched:. Oriflamb, Radiac, Soldier’s Dream, Tehaunui, Master Garland, Fairness, Seaboy. Won by three lengths. Time,- 4.33 1-5. Beaconsfield Handicap, of 140 sovs; one mile and a quarter—s Membo, 10.8, 1; 6 Commentor, 9.0, 2; 4 Haze, 10.8, 3. Scratched: Wrigley, Ripdale, Peterette, Clarensori. Won by three lengths. Time 2.21. Seadown Handicap, of 150 sovs; • six furlongs—l Taboo, 10.8, 1; 9 Rascal, 9.2, 2;.3 First Raid, 9.9, 3. Scratched: Wayward, Mart-is. Won by three lengths. Time, 1.20. Totalisator takings- were £7066. KING BALBOA’S WIN (By Tel*fraph—Special to "The Mail"] CHRISTCHURCH, 25th July. At the Timaru races King Balboa was warm favourite for the King Edward Handicap. Overdrawn and Wingatui were first out, Overdrawn soon taking charge, while at the end of two furlongs Circulation, headed Wingatui. This was. still the order half a mile from home, where Town Bank was last. King ’Balboa moved up at the entrance to the straight and won easily by three lengths from Overdrawn, who beat Wingatui by' a length. Evening was two lengths further back. EASY FOR LORD RANALD CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. At the Timaru races, the Wai-iti Steeplechase resolved itself into an exercise schooling gallop for the favourite, ' Lord Ranald, who carried only twenty tickets more than were entrusted to Fabriano. The latter was soon out of the contest as Mainspring jumped across him at the first fence, and in the resulting collision Fabriano fell on landing, ancL Mainspring was stopped, but continued the struggle. Lord Ranald went to the front after crossing this fence, and led throughout the first round from Mataipuke, and this pair were well clear of Terehu and Handy entering upon the second circuit. Terehu fell at the fenco at the seven furlong post, and Mainspring followed suit at the next obstacle. Mataipuke kept Lord Ranald company until the five furlong post was reached, where the latter had him beaten and Handy ran into second place. Lord Ranald gave a faultless exhibition and only faltered at one fence in front of the stand, where Mataipuke outSed and headed him for a moment. interest was lost by the early elimination of Fabriano, and a lino as to ’his Grand National prospects was thus unobtainable. Lord Ranald is to contest the Rome by Steeplechase at the Christchurch Hunt meeting, and if he Should maintain his unbeaten record, he will come into strong favour for Riccarton’s big race.
