TAHUNA DRESSING SHED
DAMAGED BY TIDAL WAVE The City Engineer (Air J. G. Littlejohn) informed the City Council last night that, a door of the new dressing shed at Tahuna beach hacl been broken open, probably by the force of the waves during the tidal wave which followed the big earthquake. The door bad been open for about five weeks and the sheds, too, were about eight inches deep in sand. He thought the Tahuna Sands Association’s attention should be drawn to the matter. The men’s open dressing shed (the old structure) had been carried off its piles and deposited on the sand hills. The Mayor said the damage was the outcome of the earthquake and he thought the Council as the landlord should do what was necessary. Councillor Watson said some idea, of the force of the waves could be gauged from the fact that the corrugated iron in front of the shed had been flattened out. After some further discussion it was resolved that the City Engineer interview the secretary of the Tahuna Sands Association about the condition of the bathing facilities and children’s playground at the Sands Reserve and report to the committee.
