THEIR EXCELLENCIES' REGRETS
AT SHORT STAY IN NELSON BUT WILL COME HERE AGAIN Tho Mayor (Mr W. J. Moffaft) has received tho. following letter from His Excellency the Governor-General: —• "Her Excellency and I are both very sorry that it has not been possible for us to stay a day or two in Nelson on this occasion. We were, anxious to do so but Parliament is sitting and 1" cannot remain away longer from Wellington. I" can assure you that our neglect of Nelson is not due to any lack of sympathy or interest-. There is much that we would have liked to have seen, if only to show sympathy for those who in one way or another have suffered from the recent earthquake. We. well understand 'that many have been through a time of stress and anxiety and to you and them we extend our sincere sympathy and good wishes. We shall make a point of paying a short visit to Nelson before leaving the Dominion and I hope that this promise may make some amends for pur omission on this occasion."
