RICHMOND
BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING There were present at tho fortnightly meeting of tho Richmond Borough Council held in the Council Chambers last evening, the Mayor, Mr H. W. Kelly, Councillors 11. Schroder, W. Hill, H. Newport, E. Smallbone, P. Haycock and E- Crouebor. A circular letter was received from the .Mam Highway!) Board in respect to tho control'.of heavy traffic. The Hon. H. Atmore expressed hir, willingness to support a request by the borough for a £o to CI subsidy on road construct ton, and also for the declaration of Lower Queen street as a secondary highway. A letter was received from the Nelson Earthquake Belief Committee regarding applications for assistance to repair earthquake relief. The, foreman's report was as follows: "Wensloy road ditch has been deepened 10 incites on the eastern side to prevent tho water Hooding Hie road at Cemetery. The following roads and streets have been graded: Salisbury road, Edward street, Upper Queen street, Crescent .street. Oxford street, Gladstone and Wciisl'ey roads. The ditch draining the Recreation ground and Lower Queen street has been cleared of watercress. Gravel has been carted as follows: MeShane's road, 6yds; Oxford street, 4yds; Salisbury road, Owing to a landslide at the reservoir, the overflow has had i" be repaired with timber." A Idler was received on behalf ".of Mr-. T. Sutton, Salisbury road, regarding the blockage of a ditch which caused flood waters to form a pool under his bouse. Tho Mayor reported that the Works Committee bad intended to put the, matter in hand. The Works Committee reported on a visit to Wenslcy road to inspect the watertable which allowed water to overHow into property. The Committee recommended the cleaning'of a ditch and a 'hainpipe to lei the water away. The Mayor reported on a visit with representatives of the Waimea County Council to the Balck creek culvert at Hope which allowed flood waters to run into the Richmond Borough. The Council decided to support the dog tax'collector in proceedings against two residents for the registration of 'legs. . . , . . The ranger's attention .is to be drawn to straving cattle on the roads.' Councillor Haveoek reported on the ditch in Water street. The property occupier is to be notified to clear the ditch. ~..•',,, i The owner of a hedge at the sale yards is to be instructed to cut the 'hedge back to the boundary.
