WHY HE JOINED LABOUR LONDON, 15th .Tuly. The Attorney-General (Sir William Jowit.t) has begun liis by-election .v.mnjiign. Sir William Jowilt. after having been elected for Preston us u Liberal, joined the Labour Party, and was appointed Attorney-Gen era I. He thou resignod the seat to recontest it in the Labour interest. Speaking at Preston, Sir William Jowiit. said: "Knave though I may be, I have not boon accused of being a fool. My solo object in accepting office was the hope of being able to give useful national service. 1 shall use .such prudence and ability as I possess to assist, the Ministry in putting forward sound, constructive measures in order that the whole world may see that (he prosperity, not o\ a section of the nation, hut of the nation as a whole, may be obtained by Labour government. J have no regret. I have endeavoured to put national service before other considerations. Labour has inaugurated a great force; great (hough it is to-dav it will be greater tomorrow. It is being carried on with enthusiasm inspired bv idealism. 1 appeal for a chance for this Government, ft lias begun well. Allow it. to reap a ripened harvest. - '
